Ugwu smoothie (pumpkin leaves)

April 09, 2019

Smoothies are a great way of getting the good vitamins your body needs. You can have them at any time of the day but most people recommend that you have them for breakfast.

Your bowl of smoothie should contain mainly fruits, veggies and nuts if you love to have a nutty flavour. I've experimented on different fruits and veggies and I've mostly tried to use the fruits and vegetables common in Nigeria because I'm a Nigerian and a proud one.

The major ingredient in today's smoothie is ugwu (pumpkin leaves). I used it because my mum told me you can drink the juice instead of taking blood tonic as it helps improves the production of blood in the body, but that's not all God blessed Ugwu leaves with; the leaves are rich in potassium, Iron, calcium, vitamin A, C, B2 and E. Research has shown that regular intake of ugwu juice could help prevent cancer due to it's antioxidants properties.

After learning on how much good the leaves will do to my body I decided to use it to make smoothie and it came out nice😀. In this smoothie I added blue berries to sweeten the smoothie and also bananas to thicken it.

Ingriendents
1 cup of chopped ugwu leaves
2 medium banana
Half cup of blue berries
1 medium carrot chopped

Sorry I forgot to add the pumpkin leaves

Instructions
Add all ingredients to your blender and blend well till smooth

Ugwu leaves are also called pumpkin leaves and I think you should be able to get them in your country if not then you can use any vegetable that is available
